Unlike traditional analog lines, EX-SDI is a digital signal that can create a much sharper image without being affected by the distance of the object. EX-SDI utilizes digital technology to send its images over in a way that does not lose quality with a greater distance between what is being recorded and the camera. This allows for minute details to be visible when the otherwise would not be. Things like license plate numbers, or facial recognition is far better with EX-SDI than traditional analog images, which is currently the industry standard.
The best part of EX-SDI is to upgrade to it is extremely easy in that these cameras can still utilize the coax cables from the previous CCTV coax-based installation. This means, to upgrade the cameras, any technician familiar with coax-based installations for CCTV will easily be able to upgrade a system to EX-SDI cameras.
The table above depicts the dramatic differences you can achieve with EX-SDI vs the traditional HD-SDI that is the current industry standard. EX-SDI can offer a greater image for less of a cost and is compatible with older coax-based installations, which also cuts down on the cost.
